As males reach sexual maturity, they may experience nocturnal emissions, commonly known as "wet dreams." Normally, this occurs 2 to 3 times a month. However, if it exceeds 5 times, it is considered frequent and requires active treatment to avoid affecting mental health or reducing sperm quality.
Why do men frequently experience nocturnal emissions?
1、Lack of sexual knowledge
Around the age of 15, during adolescence, there is often a lack of understanding about sexual matters, yet there is a strong curiosity. Prolonged exposure to erotic materials such as books or videos can focus the mind on sexual thoughts, keeping the sexual nerve center in a state of excitement and leading to frequent nocturnal emissions. Additionally, diseases related to the reproductive organs like prostatitis, urethritis, or balanitis can cause prolonged inflammation and congestion of the sexual organs, resulting in multiple nocturnal emissions.
3、Physical weakness
Excessive fatigue or physical weakness can lead to dysfunction of various organs, reducing the brain's control over the sexual centers and increasing the excitability of ejaculation and erection centers, causing frequent nocturnal emissions. Additionally, prolonged sexual fantasies, wearing tight clothing, sleeping face down, or using overly heavy bedding can stimulate the sexual organs and lead to frequent emissions.
4、Related to exercise
Exercise increases blood flow to the sexual organs, enhancing the circulation in the prostate, testicles, and seminal vesicles, and increasing the secretion of semen. Moreover, exercise enhances the reflex abilities of the central nervous system and the autonomic nervous system, boosts the ability of the erection centers, causes engorgement of the sexual organs, and ultimately triggers sexual impulses and frequent nocturnal emissions.
How to alleviate nocturnal emissions?
1、Reduce exposure to stimulating environments
Avoid watching erotic movies or reading explicit materials, and refrain from masturbation, as these can stimulate the brain and induce nocturnal emissions. Frequent masturbation or indulgence can lead to a pathological excitability of the ejaculation center. Maintain a regular lifestyle, avoid smoking and drinking, and do not consume strong tea or coffee. Avoid hot baths before sleep. Sleep in a curled side-lying position, avoid heavy or thick bedding, and do not wear tight pants.
3、Use cold water rinses
Before sleep, rinse the scrotum with cold water to reduce sexual excitement, but avoid prolonged rinsing, especially for those with weak constitutions. Additionally, massage the kidney and dantian acupoints, rolling 30 times clockwise and counterclockwise each, to improve sexual function and alleviate nocturnal emissions.
Reminder
Regardless of the cause of frequent nocturnal emissions, it is essential to identify the reason and treat it actively. Occasional nocturnal emissions in unmarried individuals are not a cause for concern and should not lead to anxiety, which can increase mental burden.
