Top Tips to Prevent Genital Herpes Outbreaks

Genital Herpes (GH), also known as herpes occurring in the genital area, is a viral infectious skin disease, which falls under the category of "heat sores" in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Unlike herpes that occurs outside the corners of the mouth, it is mostly transmitted through sexual relationships. So, what are the methods to prevent genital herpes?

Prevention

(1) Avoid unclean sexual intercourse and improper sexual relationships. Active genital herpes patients are strictly prohibited from having sexual relationships with anyone;

(2) Abstain from sexual activities during treatment, and if necessary, the spouse should also be examined;

(3) For local lesions, care should be taken to keep them clean and dry to prevent secondary infections;

(4) For those who have been cured or have recurrences, attention should be paid to preventing colds, catching cold, fatigue, and other inducing factors to reduce recurrence.

Currently, there is no specific prevention method. Animal experiments have shown that vaccination with HSV inactivated vaccine or attenuated live vaccine has an immune effect. However, due to the close relationship between the virus and certain cancers, it is not used for routine prevention. Recently, the use of purified herpes virus envelope glycoproteins as a vaccine can avoid the carcinogenic risk of herpes virus DNA.

ACV also has a preventive effect. Condoms may reduce the spread of the disease, especially during the asymptomatic virus-shedding period, but when genital lesions are present, the use of condoms cannot prevent transmission.
