How to Prevent Nongonococcal Urethritis Effectively

Nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by Chlamydia trachomatis, Ureaplasma urealyticum, and other pathogens. Clinically, it presents with symptoms of urethritis, but no gonococci are found in the secretions, and bacterial cultures do not show gonococcal growth. Female patients often have concurrent genital tract inflammations such as cervicitis, so in women, it is also referred to as nonspecific genital tract infection. Since a single sexual contact can simultaneously infect gonococci and Chlamydia trachomatis, and the latter has a longer incubation period than the former, NGU symptoms may appear after the cure of gonorrhea, which is termed "post-gonococcal urethritis," essentially a manifestation of NGU. So, what are the preventive measures for nongonococcal urethritis?

1. Promote self-respect and eliminate sexual promiscuity.

2. Patients should not engage in sexual relations with anyone before being cured.

3. Personal infection prevention is similar to that for gonorrhea.

4. Patients should use dedicated bathtubs and towels, and underwear should be frequently disinfected by boiling.

5. Treat sexual partners.
